Custom Close Message

Customize the message shown when your Google Form is closed

When your form closes, respondents see a message. Form Limiter lets you customize this message.

Setting a Custom Message

  1. Open your Google Form
  2. Click Add-onsForm Limiter
  3. Set your response or date limit
  4. Enter your custom message in the Close message field
  5. Click Save

Default Message

If you don't set a custom message, respondents see Google's default:

"This form is no longer accepting responses."

Writing Effective Close Messages

Be Clear

Tell respondents why the form is closed:

  • "Registration is full. Thank you for your interest!"
  • "The submission deadline has passed."

Provide Alternatives

Guide users to next steps:

  • "Spots filled! Join our waitlist at link"
  • "Applications closed. Follow us for future opportunities."

Stay Professional

Match your organization's tone:

  • Formal: "Thank you for your interest. This form has reached its response limit."
  • Friendly: "Thanks for stopping by! We've hit our limit but check back soon."

Tips

  • Keep messages concise - respondents see this on a simple page
  • Include contact info if respondents might have questions
  • Test your message by previewing the closed form
  • Update the message if circumstances change (e.g., add waitlist info when full)

Character Limit

Close messages support up to 500 characters. This is plenty for a clear, helpful message.
