Total Response Limit
The response cap is the product. You give the form a number, and the live form refuses the submission that would take it one over.
Setting it
- Open Live form settings, from the Form tab in the sidebar or from your live forms on skyfield.cloud
- On the Respondents tab, turn on Limit total responses
- Enter a number under Stop accepting responses after
- Optionally, write a Message once the limit is reached. This is the same text the Schedule tab calls the form closed message: one message covers every way the form can be closed
The change saves as you make it. Back in the sidebar, the Live form settings row reads Stops at 120.
How it holds under a rush
Every submission counts against the cap in a single all-or-nothing step, with the count locked while it happens. When a form capped at 100 has 99 responses and two people press submit in the same instant, one succeeds and the other is told the form is full. There is no way to end up at 101.
This is the difference from capping a Google Form itself. There, the cap is applied by a trigger that Google runs after the response is already recorded, and inside that window a busy form can take several responses past its limit. On the live form there is no window.
What happens at the limit
Once the total is reached, the live form stops accepting entries and shows respondents your message instead of the questions, on every open page at the same moment. The default reads: This form has reached its response limit and is no longer accepting entries. Any per-choice limits keep working underneath, so whichever runs out first is what stops the form.
Together with per-choice limits
The two limits are independent, and each holds on its own. "No more than 200 people in total, and no more than 40 in any one session" is two settings, not a compromise between them. See Per-choice limits.
Clearing it
Turn Limit total responses off. The form starts taking responses again straight away.
Licence
This setting needs an active licence to change. A saved limit keeps working on the live form after a plan ends.
