The Focus Record
With Record when respondents leave the page on, the live form counts each time the tab is hidden or the window loses focus while the clock runs, and adds up how long the respondent was away. The result sits beside each response in the Left the page column, for example 3 times, 94 s, or Never.
Respondents are told
While the record is on, the Start screen says: "Leaving this page while the clock runs is recorded." Nothing is recorded before Start or after the response is submitted.
Read it as a signal, not as proof
The record is reported by the respondent's own browser. A notification that takes focus, a second monitor or a phone call can all count as leaving the page, and someone determined could interfere with what their browser reports. It never blocks or ends a response. Use it to decide which responses deserve a second look, not as evidence on its own.
Turning it off
Switch Record when respondents leave the page off on the Timer tab. The line disappears from the Start screen, and new responses show no record.
