One Attempt per Person

Give each signed-in respondent a single clock, and reset it when something goes wrong

By default the live form is open to anyone with the link, and nothing ties a clock to a person: someone who runs out of time can open the link again and start over. To stop that, ask respondents to sign in.

Turning it on

  1. Open Live form settings and go to the Respondents tab
  2. Set Collect email addresses to Verified

Respondents now sign in with Google before Start, and the Timer tab's One attempt per person row reads On. There is no separate switch.

What it does

  • Each signed-in account gets one clock per form.
  • Opening the link on a second device, in another browser or after clearing cookies resumes that same clock. It does not start a new one.
  • A response is only accepted from the account that started the clock.
  • A clock that ran out without a response still counts as that person's attempt. With Lock the form, that is the point: the attempt is spent.
  • A submitted response is the attempt. Pressing Start again, for example after "Submit another response", does not start a new clock.

Allow another attempt

Laptops crash and connections drop. To give one person a fresh clock:

  1. On the Timer tab, find Allow another attempt
  2. Enter the person's email address and click Reset

The tab confirms the reset, or tells you there was no attempt for that address. A reset clears both an unfinished attempt and a spent one; a response that was already submitted stays where it is.

Limit who can respond

With Verified on, the Respondents tab can also restrict the form to your email domain or to a list of addresses. See Other live form settings.
