When Time Runs Out
When time runs out on the Timer tab decides what happens at zero. Whichever you pick, a response can no longer be submitted by hand once the clock has reached zero.
Submit the answers so far
The default. At zero the page submits whatever the respondent has entered. Required questions they did not reach are accepted as blank, because a response cut off by the clock is partial by nature. The Start screen tells respondents their answers are submitted automatically.
Choose this when a partial response is still useful: a test you will mark, a survey where some answers beat none.
Lock the form and discard the answers
At zero the form locks, the respondent sees Time's up, and nothing is recorded. The Start screen tells respondents that answers can no longer be submitted once time runs out.
Choose this when only a complete response submitted in time should count, for example a timed application.
Late responses
A response has to arrive while its clock is still running. One sent after the deadline is refused by the server, whatever the page shows, so editing the page or the device clock does not help. A few seconds of grace cover a slow connection at the very end.
Each Start allows one response. Submitting twice, or replaying an old submission, is refused.
