Features
Slides Translator is a sidebar in Google Slides with two tabs: Translate, where you set up and run a translation, and Account, for your plan.
Setting up
Any of 100+ languages. Afrikaans to Zulu, from a list you can search by English or native name. The languages you used last are at the top of the list, under Recent. See Language and slides.
All slides, or part of the deck. Translate all slides, the default, the current slide, or the slides or text boxes you have selected.
A glossary for your terms. One row per term, with what to translate it as. Keep a product name as it is, or translate a phrase your way, the same on every slide. See Glossary.
Remembered with the deck. The language and the glossary are saved with the presentation, so the next time you open the sidebar they are already set. The speaker notes switch under the cog is remembered for you, across all your decks.
Translating
In the deck you have open. The text is replaced where it is, after you confirm. The button names what is translated: Translate this deck, Translate this slide or Translate selection. File > Version history brings the original back.
Keep the original with one click. Make a copy first, in the What to translate window and in the confirm window, opens Google's own Copy document page for this deck in a new tab. Make the copy, translate there, and the original stays as it was. See Keep the original.
Formatting kept. Bold, italics, links, fonts, font sizes and colours stay where they were.
Tables and speaker notes. Text in shapes, tables, groups and speaker notes is translated. Turn off Translate speaker notes under the cog to leave the notes as they are.
Progress you can follow. The sidebar shows each step: read the deck, translate, write the translation. On a long deck it counts the parts, for example 2 of 5.
Gemini & Claude on every plan. The free plan too, with whichever of the two currently gives the best result in our tests. There is no key to set up and no engine to pick.
After a run
The result in the deck. The window says how many slides were translated and into which language, and the slides behind the sidebar show the translation.
Lines that need a check. A line that came back incomplete is left as it was and listed with its slide number. Fix it in the sidebar and it is written on its own, free of charge. See Check the translation.
Free and paid
30 free slides a month. A slide counts once for each language you translate it into, and slides without text do not count. A run that would go over what is left is refused before anything is translated, and the sidebar warns you first. The count resets on the 1st of every month (UTC). See Free slides and limits.
Unlimited slide translations on a paid plan. See pricing.
